Limits

Basic human decency should be the fundamental requirement for entering someone’s life.

Think about it: what if we could instantly gauge someone’s level of decency upon meeting them? We could simply declare, "Basic human decency is the price of entry today, tomorrow, and into my life."

I envision this concept extending to other values I cherish, such as honesty, respect, integrity, and loyalty. Imagine knowing where someone stands on these principles from the very beginning. How different would our lives be if we could choose our relationships based on the likelihood that someone might hurt us?

Would such knowledge strip away the spontaneity of life, even as it protects us? And does a person’s past behavior guarantee that they won’t repeat actions that we fear? Consider this: a murderer remains a murderer regardless of whether they have committed the act once or multiple times. Thus, the first victim would have been mistaken to assume that past behavior predicts future actions.

On that note, I’m off in search of some weed, as it seems like I could definitely use it!
