Dating as a Mom of Six
Dating as a mom of six is not like dating. It's like a job interview where the panel is six tiny humans with veto power and extremely high standards.
First, there's the profile problem. How do you even write it? “Fun-loving mom of six seeks partner who is unbothered by chaos, fluent in kid-logic, and comfortable being outnumbered at all times.” It's less a dating profile, more a warning label.
Then there's the first date conversation. Normal people talk about hobbies and travel. I talk about IEP meetings and who's allergic to what and why the toddler currently only answers to “Captain.” By date two, he either runs or leans in — and honestly, the running saves us both time.
The real test, though, is meeting the kids. There is no casual way to introduce “this is Mommy's friend” to six children. They will interrogate him. They will ask his intentions. My oldest once asked a date “what are YOUR red flags” — and honestly? Valid question. We kept him a while.
Here's what dating as a mom of six taught me: my standards aren't high, they're just... accurately calibrated. I don't have time for potential. I don't have energy for projects. I need someone who's already a whole person, because I am one — a whole person with six part-time jobs and a truck.
And the beautiful plot twist? The right person doesn't see six kids as baggage. They see a woman who can handle anything — because she already does, daily, before 9 AM.
To every mom out there dating with a full house: you're not “too much.” You're just too much for the wrong person. The right one will pull up a seventh chair.
Moms who date: funniest kid-interrogation story. GO. I need to know I'm not alone.
