My seven-year-old walked out of the store in her Elsa dress carrying a hockey starter kit and a bag almost as big as she is. She carried it herself. All of it. Would not let anyone help. She was proud — chest out, chin up, princess dress and hockey gear, both at once, because why would she have to pick? Girls contain multitudes, and mine contains a princess and a hockey player in the same afternoon. She wanted everyone to see her in her gear. So here she is. She carried it herself. Remember that the next time someone tells a little girl she has to choose one thing to be.
