The Village: A Thank-You to the People Who Show Up
They say it takes a village to raise a child. I have six children. I need a METROPOLIS. And somehow — impossibly, gratefully — I have one.
This post is a thank-you. Not a funny one (okay, a little funny). A real one.
To the friend who shows up with coffee when I've texted “today is a day” — no questions, no advice, just caffeine and presence. You have no idea how many times that saved me.
To the family members who take the kids for an afternoon so I can breathe — who love my chaos-goblins like their own and return them tired and happy. You're not “helping out.” You're holding up the sky.
To the other moms in the trenches — the group chat girls, the pickup-line nodders, the ones who see me drowning and throw a meme instead of a lecture. You are my sisters in a war nobody else understands.
To the teachers who love my kids through their hard days. The coaches who show up. The neighbors who pretend not to notice the screaming and wave anyway. The barista who has my order memorized and asks about the kids by name.
And to my kids themselves — because here's the plot twist: they're my village too. The way the big ones help the little ones. The way they rally when I'm having a hard day, appearing with drawings and hugs like tiny first responders. We're not just a family. We're a team.
I spent a long time thinking I had to do everything alone — that asking for help meant failing. Breaking that belief was part of breaking the cycle. Strong isn't doing it all yourself. Strong is letting people in.
So: thank you. To every person who's ever held a baby so I could eat, listened to me vent without fixing, or just sat with me in the mess. You didn't just help me survive motherhood. You helped me become the woman I am now.
Tag your village below. Tell them. They need to hear it — and honestly, so do you.
