things that make no sense

I pride myself on having an exceptionally high IQ—seriously, it's off the charts.

Most of the time, I can figure things out with ease. But every now and then, I come across something so baffling, so inexplicable, that no amount of reasoning seems to make sense of it.

Take today, for example. I'm in my son's room, trying to disassemble a piece of used furniture. It's a bunk bed, and while I understand it was secondhand, what I encountered left me utterly perplexed.

I removed a bolt from the bed frame, and as I stared at it, confusion set in. How on earth was this bolt holding the bed together? How would anyone tighten it? I had to loosen it with vice grips, and using a tool like that for furniture assembly is far from standard—or safe.

Here's the kicker: the bolt is completely round. No edges, no grooves, nothing to provide leverage for tightening. Yet, somehow, my ex managed to put this bed together using this ridiculous bolt. This is the same bed my 8-year-old slept on every night!

And what truly blows my mind is that my ex didn’t seem to notice—or care—that the bolt was entirely round. This wasn’t some minor oversight. How do you not see that? And for the record, he’s not even a stoner, so we can’t blame that. Although, let’s be honest, sometimes weed raises more questions than it answers.
